There is universal agreement among language instructors and scientists that the younger the child, the easier it will be for him or her to acquire the ability to speak another language. Many parents recognize this, and want their children to begin learning a new language at an early age, although not necessarily in the immersion programs run by some school districts.

On the other hand, students of middle and high school age, for whom language study is a requirement in the public school system, may experience difficulty with the study of Spanish for any number of reasons.
